They say that ‘small is beautiful’ and micropubs are often testament to this, and certainly so is what is one of the smallest watering holes in Derby. Named in honour of its previous use as a local post office, we pay a visit to The Last Post micropub, just a short walk away from Derby city centre.

Small in size, but big on events

When we say that this is one of the smallest watering holes we are not joking. The Last Post micropub is a small, single-room venue room for up to approx 20 customers, yet despite its small size this micropub does certainly knows how to pull in the punters. Indeed on some of our previous visits here The Last Post was very busy with plenty of happy customers filling up the tables, chairs and the bar area. On our most recent visit here (February 2024) there was live music here which was well attended. The Last Post holds several regular live events including quiz nights, open mic sessions, karaoke, and plenty of live gigs.

Plenty of character inside (and out)

When not enjoying the live events taking place here there are several interior touches to admire here at The Last Post. There are a few subtle references to its previous post office use including a picture of different coloured post boxes as well as an image of the classic red post box on the main window. Also worth noting that the entrance door and window frames are painted in traditional post office red.

Back inside and other interior touches include guitars hanging up on the walls, classic vinyl album covers, and some old traditional pub mirrors.

Beer posted (at the bar)

When it comes to the drinks selection on offer The Last Post certainly delivers here. For starters there are up to four cask ales to choose from as well as up to five keg offerings. Other beverages available include ciders, whiskeys, spirits, wines, and soft drinks. Snacks available here include crisps and nuts.

A first class micropub

In keeping with it post office theme The Last Post definitely delivers a first class micropub experience with so much to like here. There’s a good drinks range to choose from, the staff are excellent, the venue itself is well decorated throughout, and with plenty of live events taking place here there’s plenty of reasons to keep coming back here. The Last Post may be a small micropub in terms of size, but there are several other aspects of the venue that are anything but small. This Derby watering hole is well worth a visit.
