Situated just east of the border between Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire is the former coal mining town of Eastwood which is where we headed for a post-Christmas/nearly New Year micropub outing. At the time of writing Eastwood is home to three micropubs that all originally opened in 2017, and the first to open was the Dog & Parrot.

Room for plenty of companions

As single-room watering holes go the Dog & Parrot is one of the largest micropub establishments that we’ve visited. In fact you could say that this is a huge micropub and that’s because it is (in more ways than one as we’ll come to later). The main room has more than just size going for it – there’s lots of interior touches to appreciate including some nifty street signs, photos, and memorabilia from the British Legion which the Dog & Parrot happen to be huge supporters of. Oh and further priding itself on being a local micropub there are also some references inside to the town of Eastwood.

And then there’s the beer garden

The main room at the Dog & Parrot is one thing, but there’s also a very quirky beer garden at the rear of the venue that’s almost worthy of an article of it’s own. As with the main room there are some novel touches here including local references amongst others.

Drinky Treats

As with the size of this micropub the drinks range available at the Dog & Parrot is also large to boot. Starting with the cask selection where there are up to seven ales to choose from whilst there are also keg beers available if this is more to your taste. Cider fans have up to four tipples available for their enjoyment. Other drinks available here include wines, whiskeys, spirits and soft drinks. Snack-wise you have crisps, nuts and pork scartchings available.

Don’t forget the doggy treats (WOOF!)

In keeping with the name of the venue the Dog & Parrot has plenty of treats available for any four-legged companions paying a visit here.

Good Dog

To say that the Dog & Parrot is a good micropub is a massive understatement, in fact just saying it’s a great micropub doesn’t do it justice. There’s just so much to like here including an excellent drinks range, a great setting, brilliant staff, and it’s crystal clear that the owners have put so much pride, care and attention to make this a cracking watering hole. Put simply the Dog & Parrot is one of the best micropubs that we’ve visited and can not recommend it enough.
