David Catterall along with his business partner, Rick Mason, submitted plans to Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council requesting permission to convert the vacant home in West Malling, located at 52 High Street.
In the application, David said: “In summary a micropub is a small drinking house solely concerned with selling locally brewed traditional ales and beers to a typically middle aged (and upwards) customer in an environment conducive to conversation.
“This is at stark odds to the typical brewery-owned formula of large premises serving continental, non-domestic drinks in an environment drowned in music late into the night.”
Mr. Catterall currently owns a food & drink business, employing over 700 people and added that he doesn’t intend to open the micropub as a “high revenue creator” but to support local breweries and help re-establish a lost tradition in the town.
The council received 9 letters of support from locals in hopes of bringing something new to the town.
If approved, the micropub will be named ‘The Malling Jug’ and will be open Tues-Sun from midday to 9pm.
