A new micropub is currently being planned for the Littleover area, Littleover is a village and suburb located in Derbyshire.
Currently an application has been submitted to Derby City Council which requests to covert a former dentist’s surgery located on Burton Road.
The application was submitted by Neil Mansell, following the opening of The Last Post in Uttoxeter just earlier this year. The owners of The Last Post, George Lambert and Walter Scott were also behind the Little Chester Ale House which opened back in November 2012.
Neil said: “The proposed small-scale operation will not add to the problems associated with some large pub chains and clubs. Its limited scope and nature will, however, be able to make a contribution to the local economy and add to the vitality of the area.”
The former Dentist’s surgery is located in Littleover District Centre, within the application Neil Mansell states: “Externally, no changes will be made except that some signage will be required to identify the micropub and replace signs for dentists. The maximum number of customers is not expected to exceed 30.”
Currently no date has been set on when the city council will make a decision on the application.
Micropubs are now opening at a faster rate than ever before, with over 100 micropubs across the UK and Scotland recently receiving their first, the numbers are expected to rise dramatically within the next few years. Due to great feedback, low overheads and since it has become easier to set up a small independent public house since the passing of the 2003 Licensing Act.
