This week saw the opening of Maldon’s smallest pub, Farmers Yard, located on Maldon High Street, the micropub accommodates for 20 real ale lovers, providing 11 seats inside and enough space for 9 other people to quench their thirst while standing.
The Farmers Yard is not only a micropub but also a bottle shop, allowing customers to purchase their favourite drinks or experience new drinks from different microbreweries which you wouldn’t find at a traditional pub or supermarket.
The new micropub was opened by Nigel Farmer who is also one of the directors of Maldon Brewing Company, a family run business.
Nigel said: “It is a wonderful feeling to be open and to see the fruits of our labour.
“We have worked very hard over the weekend doing some long days and while we haven’t done everything we want to yet, it is ready enough to get open.
“The sound of conversation inside is lovely. Our pub allows for conversation, it is for socialising with a beer and having a good chat about things.
“We expect to see a few familiar faces at the start but seeing people we don’t know coming in is when we will feel like we’ve been really successful.”
“It has been really encouraging”
“On Friday when I was putting the sign up, it took me a while to do it because people wanted to stop and talk about the pub.
“I ended up chatting with a lot of people who wished us well, so it is very promising.”
Maldon’s smallest pub, The Farmers Yard is open from Mon-Fri 11-2 and again from 5-9, Saturday from 11-9 and 12-9 on Sundays and located at 140 High Street, Maldon, Essex.
