The Tap Room micro pub, located in Maldon, on High street has recently applied to the council in hopes of extending the current opening hours that allow the pub to be open from 11am to 11pm from Monday to Sunday.
The micro pub, which is owned by the Mighty Oak brewery, opened in October last year and has seen great support from locals since, the brewery would like to extend the current hours to be more in-line with other pubs in the area, as the current hours were agreed upon as a “compromise” while the business was settling in. The new hours would see The Tap Room open until 1am each night, with no alcohol being served after midnight.
The proposal said: “There was no certainty of its success apart from the written support of many local people as noted in the original change of use application from a tea room to a micro pub.
“The Mighty Oak Tap Room has become a welcome addition to the High Street showing both vitality and viability and is making a positive contribution to the town.
“The proposal of this application is to extend the opening hours of the ground floor of the building so that they are in line with other similar establishments in the town and by providing quantified evidence the restrictions as to the use of the first floor can brought in line with the ground floor.”
The council are set to make a decision on the application in December.
