Gedling Borough Council recently approved an application to open a micro pub in Nottinghamshire village – Newstead.
Applicant Lorraine Horrocks, plans to transform the current sports pavilion in Tilford Road, making a change of use from “D2 to D2/A4 micropub mixed use”, allowing to premises to be used for entertainment purposes & as a drinking establishment.
The application says: “The emphasis of a micropub is very much on creating a convivial social atmosphere where people can meet and enjoy a drink or two.
“There will be no gaming or gambling machines on site. Daily newspapers, board games etc will be available, encouraging people to sit and relax.
“The establishment will sell four cask ales and one or two craft lagers.
“The emphasis of this model is on quality rather than quantity (with retail prices reflecting this) and ales will be sourced from Nottinghamshire micro-breweries, therefore supporting other local small businesses.
“In addition I will sell wine, hot refreshments and soft drinks as well as pub snacks.”
Once the micro pub opens, two new jobs will be created as a full-time & part-time member of staff will be required.
